3. Object of study - integration processes on the European Continent in the context of international relations development in the 70-s - 90-s of the XX century. Purpose of work - defining the role and position of Great Britain in the European integration processes in 1973-1997. Methods - historical-comparative, problem-chronological, synchronous, diachronical, retrospective, typological, comparative-economic. statistical, method of specific sociological researches. Newness and results of research - dissertation is a complex research of Great Britain position in the European building processes in 1973-1997. The reasons of the country isolation from the first integration associations, preconditions of the entry into the EEC, peculiarities of British governments' and ruling parties' approaches to "the European problem", forming of the strict integration policy of the United Kingdom during the research period were analysed in this work. In the dissertation it is concluded that the evolution of British policy in the European direction from the "euroscepticism" to "Europe at option" formula is an evidence of the nation's pragmatic approach to the European building processes, based on the specificity of political and legal culture, foreign policy relations that permit to save the distance between the "island state" and the Continental Europe. Practical significance of research - its results can be used for creation textbooks and scientific works on newest history of Europe and Great Britain.
