Object of the study: Patients with Proteus infection, infected experimental animals. Purpose of the study: To improve the efficacy of treatment of Proteus infection basing on complex evaluation of immunologi-cal, biochemical and morphologic features. Methods of research: Microbiological, immunological, bio-chemical, morphological, histochemical, immunomorphological, mathematical statistical. Theoretical and practical results: Biological features of hos-pital strains of Proteus circulating in hospitals of Kharkiv were studied, the level of sensitivity to antibacterial preparations of the isolated bacteria of Proteus genus was determined; the effect of antibacterial preparations and immunomodulators on the immu-nity, morphogenesis and processes of bioenergetics of the macroorganism in Proteus infection was evaluated. Combined use of Ciprofloxacin and Polyoxidonium was established to be rational and effective. Novelty: For the first time, microbiological characteristics of Proteus strains isolated fromvarious patients and environmental objects of Kharkiv hospitals were determined. On the regional level it was shown that the strains with a considerable set of pathogenicity factors were highly resistive to the majority of antimicrobial drugs used in medical practice. Experimental model of purulent-necrotic Proteus infection which differs from already existing by prolonged course and localization of infection was worked out, which allowed to determine the level of immune state disturbances, characteristics of cellular metabolism and morphogenesis. Everything established, together with the data of microbiological investigation, allowed to suggest effective protocols of combined treatment of Proteus infection with the use of antimicrobial and immune-modulating drugs. Degree of introduction: The findings of the research are used in teaching process of microbiology, virology and immunology department, infectious diseases department, urology and andrology department, ENT diseases department of Kharkiv State Medical University. Sphere of application: Medicine, microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases.
