The dissertation is devoted to the solution of a scientific problem - improvement of effectiveness of prevention and treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonias in preterm newborns. The results of complex clinical, microbiological and immunological investigation of 110 newborns with primary lung diseases treated with mechanical ventilation longer than 24 hrs are presented in the thesis. The incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia in preterm newborns was determined. The current etiological structure of the disease was studied. The reliable risk factors for the complication development in preterm newborns were determined. The peculiarities of local and systemic immunity in preterm newborns of different gestational ages were studied in connection with ventilator-associated pneumonia development. Diagnostic criteria of the disease for this particular group of patients were elaborated. The use of "Broncho-munal P" and "Linex" in complex treatment and prevention of the disease was substantiated and its clinical and immunological effectiveness in preterm newborns was proved.
