Essay

.This study analyses the problem of laser hardening of pieces of machines and tools having wedge-shaped working parts made of carbon and high-speed tool and structural steels. To solve the said problem, an algorithm of determination of optimal conditions of laser irradiation of tools with wedge-shaped working parts is proposed. As demonstrated, laser heating of the R6M5 steel allows to obtain a hardened case with a hardness of 10.5-11GPa on the surface in strictly fixed heating conditions. As specified, the control of the wedge temperature mode is expedient using the rate of heating source transfer and the amount of displacement of maximum of intensity thereof from the wedge edge. Disclosed is the origination of compressive residual stresses in hardened case of steels at optimal irradiation conditions. The R6M5 steel laser hardening provides for wear-resistance increase by 1.5...2.5 times in the conditions of dry friction, reducing by 2 times the friction coefficient.
