Essay

New data as to the effect of the strain rate on the yield strength of structural materials were obtained. A program (for the two-dimensional case) was developed, which was employed to model the initiation and growth of a shear band in a thin layer of elastic viscoplastic material in shear under impact loading. The specific features of development of localized shear in a thin layer of high-strength steel under high strain-rate conditions are described.
