Dissertation is dedicated to oral sources research of "Story of Temporal Years" including social-cultural approach to the phenomena of folklore historical source. The attempt was made to detail series of motivation stagesof folklore usage in the early chronicle writing. Considered transformation of the oralsources into literaryhistorical tradition in the process of 'Story of Temporal Years" creation, which conditioned complex coexistenceof traditional folklore forms and literary genres used by the chronicler to create ideological conception of Old Russian statehood.
