Mahmoud M. The efficacy of vitrectomy combined with lasercoagulation and gas tamponade in the treatment of diabetic macular edema

Macular edema in diabetes mellitus patients. Improve the efficacy of diabetic macular edema patients treatment. Methods: statistical; clinical - visual acuity, visual field, bioophthalmoscopy, electric sensitivity by phosphen, Shierer's phenomenon and fluorescein angiography; Amsler grid, fundus - camera "Carl Zeiss ", ophthalmologic electrostimulator KNCO - 2 "Phosphen". First it has been proved that the criteria failure of laser coagulation in diabetic macular edema, the most important of which is the presence of vitreoretinal traction, epiretinal membrane, foveal edema, diffused macular edema and opacity of ocular media of any degree. The vitrectomy at diabetic macular edema affords elimination of vitreoretinal traction, regression of macular edema and proliferation process. Vitrectomy in combination with laser coagulation and gas tamponade which establishes a complete resolution of the edema in 74,4% of cases at the early period after operation. A scheme of differentiated approach to the choiceof diabetic macular edema patients therapy has been offered. This method is introduced in The Filatov Institute.
