Essay

The study was investigated for the most important problems to optimize surgical treatment tetralogy of Fallot in the infancy. 264 consequative patients which underwent the complete repair of the tetralogy of Fallot in Amosov ICVS AMS of Ukraine were analyzed. All operation were performed during 10 years period from 1991 to 2001. The mean age was 22,1 10,1 months (range from 3 to 36 months). The main features of the right ventricle hypertrophy were studied. 101 (38%) patients underwent palliative procedures followed by complete repair. Efficiency of palliation was identified for infants. The optimal terms for systemic-to-pulmonary shunts persistent were determined before complete repair. Analysis of one stage versus two stages correction was done based on early and late follow-up results. Perioperative risk factors for mortality and morbidity were identified. Indications for primary and secondary repair were improved.
