Essay

The thesis is dedicated to study of the Ukrainian sacred song of West European origin during 17th-20th centuries. In the work new musical and words material connected with reception of European sacred song in Ukraine has been put into scientific operation; the primary sources of 70 songs of European origin from the Ukrainian repertoire of the 17th-20th centuries have been established and defined more precisely; the methodological basis for study of adopted songs in Ukrainian tradition which makes functional distinctions of the sacred song's repertoire of different stages of its development is worked out; three varieties of the Ukrainian sacred song, such as extraliturgical, paraliturgical and liturgical, have been distinguished according to their functions; in the study paraliturgical sacred song are classified according to their genres; some of ways of adoption of European sacred song for Ukraine repertoire are fully described; the features that our song tradition has in common with the European one and the differences between them are revealed as well.
