Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the complex analysis of Kyiv periodical press during 1905-1914 as the source of studying social and political history of Ukraine. During the analyzed period the comparative freedom of speech was gained; the preceding censorship was abrogated there approved oppositional and Ukrainian press. Newspapers and magazines gained the possibility to englishten objectively important social and political events. This makes the press of that time the important historical source. The Contents analysis of different political periodicals proves that the main social events of the analyzed period were: the issue Tsar Manifesto on October, 17, 1905, and the Jewish massacres that followed; the elections to the State (Council) Duma and its activity; the Stolipin agrarian reform; the Ukrainian question which was being constantly discussed in Kyiv newspapers. The greatest attention in the dissertation was paid to the study of the enlightening of these events.
