Naumenko V. Taurica in the Context of Byzantine-Khazar Relations: Political-Administrative Aspect.

Political and administrative processes that took place at the territory of Crimea in the period of the most active contacts of Byzantine Empire and Khazar Kaganate at the peninsula (а.695-899) are reconstructed in the thesis. Concept of major stages and the dynamics of relations of the Empire and Kaganate at the territory of Taurica are concretised by systematisation of information from narrative and material sources. Study of origin and matter of administrative institutes and titles of Byzantine, Khazar and local rulers (protevon, archon, kyr, toparque, tudun, balgitzes, tarkhan) that mentioned in the sources allowed to characterise features of political and administrative status of areas of Crimean peninsula that found itself being the zone of Byzantine-Khazar contacts.
