Essay

The influence of the temperature, duration and processing factors of thermodiffusive treatment on phase composition, morphology and characteristics of surface layers on titanium alloys has been determined. It has been revealed the existence of oxygen partial pressure range wherein the carbooxide phase formation is occurred. The mechanism of triple compound formation at the titanium alloys surface layers during saturation in carbon-oxygen-containing medium at the temperature range of 900...1000о С has been revealed. It includes the first-priority creation of binary phases (titanium monoxide and carbide) and following their transformation in carbooxide phase. It has been determined the influence of surface layers morphology on corrosive resistance of titanium alloys. For the purpose of corrosive protection while mechanical properties conservation the conditions of thermodiffusive carbooxidation of titanium alloys have been proposed.
