Essay

Candidate's degree is devoted to complex research of Shulgin's life scientific and social activity. On the basis of analysis of historiography's problem, involvement of wide sources of archive files, analysis scientific, publicistic legacy of historian, his contribution in development of historical science was uncovered and his social-political views was considered. Scientific, pedagogical and organization activity of scientist was analyzed and the process of formation of newspaper "Kievlyanin" and its place in social political life in Ukraine in 1864-1878 was cleared up. Key words: world History, Kyiv University, development of Education, the South-West branch of Russian Geographical community, newspaper "Kievlyanin".
