Essay

The object of the research is formally redundant utterances in modern spoken English. The aim of the research is the complex study of structural and semantic, communicative and functional peculiarities of excessive explicitness in modern spoken English. The methods of the research are linguistic description, textual interpretation method, linguistic and extralinguistic phenomena correlation, speech analysis, contextual analysis, pragmatic and semantic analysis. Theoretical results and novelty lies in the complex study of excessive explicitness phenomenon in modern spoken English; theoretically proved that it manifests itself on the syntactical level and is represented by explication models of splitting the utterance structure, of expanding the utterance structure, of expanding the turn structure; for the first time structural and semantic peculiarities of formally redundant utterances are systematized in connection with the constituents of the communicative act; the communicative functions of explication models are defined. Practical results: teaching general linguistics, theoretical and practical grammar of the English language. The sphere of application: functional syntax, pragmalinguistics.
