Essay

On the base of clinical-neuropsychological and neurophysiologic study of 143 cleaning-up workers of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident together with comparison groups, the preferred cerebral localization of higher mental functions disorders was revealed in organic mental disorders in the remote period of exposure to ionizing radiation as a result of the Chernobyl accident in doses of 0.1-6 Sv, their comprehensive characterization was presented, the particular features were specified. The pathology of frontal and temporal cortex o the dominating hemisphere, middle structures and cortical-subcortical interconnections considered to be the cerebral basis of the higher nervous activity disturbances in patients with organic mental disorders in the remote period after exposure to ionizing radiation. Dose-effect relationship were revealed regarding performance of brain association areas, that are responsible for control and regulation of motor program realization as well as memory (verbal) and complexintellectual activity, mediated by speech. The diagnostic criteria of neuropsychological syndromes in organic mental disorders in the remote period of exposure to ionizing radiation in doses more than 0.3 Sv were worked out.
