The devolopment of semantics and functioning of words with spatial meaning in old and new high German texts. The aim is to define the development peculiarities of words semantics with spatial meaning. The methods are descriptive, quantitative, comparative-historical. Lexico-semantic variants of German lexemes with spatial meaning were obtained for the first time. The detailed analysis and the establishment of the peculiarities of the investigated words semantics development enriches lexico-semantic researches. The results can be employed in teaching canses in history of the German language and lexicology. The sphere of usage -higher school
