Essay

The investigation object: Pigs of the Ascanian type of the Ukrainian Meat breed and its structural units. The investigation aim: To improve methods of evaluation of productive and breeding qualities of pigs with the use of selection and genetic parameters. The theoretical and practical results: The methods of evaluation of productive and breeding qualities of pigs of the Ascanian Meat type by the main selection characters have been grounded and approbated. Results of the performed research allow to use animals of the perspective lines in intrabreed selections and crosses for increase of reproductive and fattening qualities of pigs and carcass meatness. The research materials are used in the State Enterprise "the Ascania Nova Experimental Farm" when conducting selection work with lines of the Ascanian type.
