Pavliv O. Sjogren syndrome: ophthalmological, immunohistochemical and pathomorphological criteria for diagnostic purposes

Object: dry keratoconjunctivitis (DKC) in case of Sjogren syndrome (SS). Purpose: the rising of DKS effective diagnostics in case of Sjogren syndrome (SS). Methods: standard conjunctival tests, immuno-hysto-chemical, histological and hysto-chemical; impression cytology. For the first time the peculiarities of transmembrane and secretory mucins expression were detected in the conjunctiva and mouth mucus of the patients with Sjogren syndrome by immuno-hysto-chemical method, showing significant decrease or the absence of transmembrane and secretory mucins. The knowledge on degree of degenerative changes in conjunctiva in case of SS are added. The complex of standard diagnostic test is suggested for DKC diagnostics. It was found that impression cytology is objective method, reflecting the degree of dystrophic changes in conjunctiva and investigation of biopsy samples from mouth mucus is accessible and informative diagnostic test in in case of Sjogren syndrome; the scheme of DKC treatment, depending ondegree of disease is worked out ; DKC classification is expanded by index "dry eye".
