Essay

The deportations and the migrations of the population in Western Ukraine taking place in the 40's - the beginning of the 50's of the twentieth century through the prism of ethno-national changes in the area caused by Stalin's totalitarian regime repressions, German occupation and post war Soviet policy are in the focus of the research of the dissertation. The essence and methods of the realization of migration policy of totalitarian regimes are analyzed together with consequences of major changes in the ethnical structure of the Western Ukraine population, the role and place of resettlers in economical, cultural and spiritual life of UkSSR. It is also stressed that the emigrational policy of Soviet leadership concerning the population of Western Ukraine was concentrated chiefly on suppressing the national liberation movement in the region through populating western parts with Russian-speaking residents.
