Essay

The thesis presents a study of the invariant meaning and linear functioning of the prepositions at, by, with. The traditional approach to the meaning of a preposition along purely sintagmatic lines deprived the preposition of its own semantic value. In this thesis the meaning sense method is applied enabling one to ascribe to a word as an element of the language semantic system the invariant meaning that produces variable senses in speech. Three types of pointness are distinguished responsible for varied ontology of the studied semantic entity, namely static, dynamic and compatible.
