Essay

Catalytically active gas-diffusion titanium-based electrodes have been developed, the electrodes being stable in the conditions of reduction of oxygen and oxidation of reducing gases in a system with solid protonic electrolyte (SPE). It has been shown that the limiting stage of the oxidation of reducing gases on catalytically active gas-diffusion electrodes in the SPE system is adsorption of these gases on electrodes, the rate of their oxidation being at least by an order of magnitude lower than diffusion limiting currents. For the first time there have been theoretically substantiated and practically realized two- and three-electrode ammetric sensors of reducing gases for monitoring the air environment based on the SPE . As for the range of measured concentrations, resolution, response time, stability in time and life time the sensors developed measure up to the best foreign analogs.
