The methods of the synthesis of cationic and merocyanine polymethine dyes (PD) based on indeno[2,1-b]chromene and 5H-indeno[2,1-b]quinoline were developed. Spectral and fluorescent properties of the obtained PD were investigated. Absorption spectra of unsymmetrical PD have two absorption bands in visible area. Inversion of polymethine and quasi-local electronic transitions is observed in absorption spectra of strongly unsymmetrical dyes. Long-wavelength and anti-Stock's short-wavelength fluorescence with breaking of Cacha's rule is observed for cationic PD with indeno[2,1-b]chromene nuclei.
