Subject of inquiry: the haulm gatherer which is frontal mounted on a wheel tractor. Purpose of research: a raise of harvesting effectiveness of haulm from sugar beet root crops heads, reduction of its losses and a drop of technological process power consumption on the basis of development and a choice of the machine rational kinematic parameters and operating modes. Methods: theoretical - are founded on substantive provisions of higher mathematics, theoretical and analytical mechanics, are used for compiling the differential equations of driving which were then are solved by numerical methods with the help of the PC. Experimental - according to accepted techniques and branch standards in laboratory and field conditions on designed experimental installation with application of factorial experiment scheduling and processing of outcomes with the help of application programs on the PC. Outcomes: the new construction of the haulm gatherer is developed. Analytical researches of driving of haulm gatherer frontal mounted on a tractor; losses of haulm at oscillations of the rotary haulm cutter in a longitudinal - vertical plane and conditions of qualitative operation of a passive additional pruning machine of root crops heads are defined. Experimental researches of operation in field conditions have allowed to define quality indicators of sugar beet haulm harvesting and to justify ways of their improvement. The amount of haulm residues on root crops heads has decreased to 1,5...3,0 %, losses of haulm are reduced on 5...7 %. Application of the achievements of science to production: in design offices of Open Society "Ternopil combine factory" and Open Society "Boreks" at projection of haulm gatherers new constructions outcomes of research are used. Scope of use: design offices of branch machine industry, research and educational institutions.
