Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the study of geographical names of Germany as a structural and semantic category of name giving. The study of geographical names and of the principles according to which they have been formed is the subject of the research. The following issues are considered in detail semantics (semasipological and onomasiological aspects by the study of prorer names), the processes of Slavic-Germanic linguistic interaction by the forming of geographical names-system in this region. In the accordance with the word-building's aspects of the geographical names most of them can be divided into four categories: - Geographical names, which were formed by the means of the semantic word-building; - Geographical names, which were formed by the means of derivation; - Geographical names, which were formed by the means of the word-composion; - Geographical names, which were formed by the means of the word-combination. According the etymological reconstrucrion most of geographical names semantically canbe divided into three large groups: - Geographical names, those describe the local landscape; - Geographical names, that originally described the vegetable and animal world in this region; - Geographical names, which were connected with the social and economic activities of the inhabitants.
