Вondarenko O. Concepts Man and Woman in the Ukrainian and English language mapping of the world

The dissertation focuses on lexical semantic, structural peculiarities of the concepts man and woman in the Ukrainian and English language mapping of the world. The thesis includes contrastive and descriptive methods, componental and quantitative analysis. The dissertation defines the modes of gender labeled lexicon structuring in the contrasted languages and builds the lexical semantic field The Names of Male and Female Persons in the Ukrainian and English languages. The quantitative characteristics of structural units (lexical semantic groups) that are components of the investigated field were found out. The thesis defined the basic types of lexical semantic correlation between lexical units denoting males and females in the contrasted languages and analysed gender lexicon peculiarities at the polysemantic word level.
