Object - language play as a process and a result of conscious intentional non-stereotypical linguacreative activity of an individual with an aim of creating a definite pragmasemantic effect. Aim - complex cognitive-communicative description of mechanisms, means and devices of language play phenomenon as it is represented in the English language. Methods - contextual interpretative method, method of componential analysis, method of conceptual analysis, sociolinguistic method. Theoretical significance - the research facilitates integrity of communicative and cognitive linguistics' epistemic possessions and presents a certain addition into the development of such branches of linguistics as linguocognitology, linguopragmatics, discourse study, lexical semantics. Cognitive-discursive mechanisms of production and usage of ludic elements in speech are revealed, linguocognitive and linguopragmatic parameters of igreme as heuristically and creatively meaningful unit of speaking person's discursive activity are described and systematized. Scientific novelty - the complex and the differentiated analysis of linguacreative essence and cognitive nature of language play in modern English speaking communication first was conducted. Igreme was designated and motivated as a basical ludic phenomenon and also operational mechanisms of producing ludic marked phenomena in Modern English in the context of their lexico-semantic and functional-stylistic meaningfulness. Practical value - it is possible to use materials and results of the dissertation in lecture courses on lexicology, stylistics, linguapoetics, theory and practice of translation, in the special courses on cognitive and communicative linguistics, lexical semantics, linguistics of text, and also in lexicographic practice.
