Essay

Functionally distinct compartments of grana were obtained at fragmentation of a grana by a chemical detergent, and their properties were investigated. Four regions with different contents and ratio of basic pigment-protein complexes were shown. Atypical thylakoids were found. PS I complexes were found in the stacked central part of the grana. As compared to PSI complexes of intergranal thylakoids and marginal zones of grana thylakoids, they had larger and differing in structure light-harvesting antenna. The model of grana organization was developed.
