Essay

Object - "dry" form of age related macular degeneration. Purpose - to determine the role of tiol metabolism disturbance and ground expedience of its correction in complex therapy of patients with the "dry" form of age related macular degeneration (AMD). Methods: visometry, slit lamp examination, ophthalmoscopy, perimetry, campimetry, light sensitivity of the fotopick afferent system, studying of the Shirer phenomen and on makulotest. The damaging influence of the high intensivity light on the retina and tiol metabolism was revealed in experiment. It was experimentally proved for the first time, that activation of glutathione-S-transferaze reaction increases the damaging effect of the light on the state of pigment epithelium of membranes and decreases the level of tiol form of glutathione. For the first time it was established, that the coenzyme compositum can normalize the decreased level of tiol form of glutathione in patients with the "dry" form of age related macular degeneration. The proposed complex therapy with coenzyme compositum leads to the improvement of vision acuity, indexes of the Shirer phenomen and light sensivity. The elaborated method of therapy is inculcated in the Filatovs Institute and Lviv Center "Microsurgery of the eye". Increase of treatment effectiveness. The sphere of use is medicine, ophthalmology.
