Essay

The thesis is devoted to the problem of development the polarimetric methods of investigation the homogeneous anisotropic media and the problem of extending this methods on its broader class, biological in particular. The thesis contains the optimum scheme (from the point of view of operating speed and accuracy) of measurement the anisotropic properties of homogeneous medium that is based on the use of Mueller method. By this scheme the elements of the first three columns of Mueller matrix of an investigated media are measured by its successive probing the linear polarized light with three different azimuth of orientation. Besides the polarimetric model of homogeneous anisotropic media that has been improved in this thesis permits to analyze Mueller matrices in terms of the parameters circular, linear, phase, and amplitude anisotropy. The results of polarimetric investigation of He-Ne laser light scattering by the biological samples (the oak leaves) with the use of proposed scheme of measurement and the improved polarimetric model of anisotropy of homogeneous medium have been described.
