Fogel G. Structure, Semantics and Lexicographic Presentation of the English Automobile Terminology

The object of investigation is English automobile terminology. The goal of the research is to carry out a comprehensive study of English automobile terminology and the principles of its systemic organization aimed at the development of lexicographic methods revealing specificity of every term, relationships among them in both the subject field and English word-stock. The methods of investigation comprise those of structural-semantic, comparative, descriptive, analytic, quantitative, definitive, typological, the method of field investigation, elements of component analysis. The novelty of the research consists in comprehensive investigation of English automobile terminology linguistic characteristics; in enucleation of the structure of English automobile terminology proceeding from two types of system relationships - those of the subject field and English lexicon; in establishing the ideographic approach in terminography; in development of the English Dictionary of Automobile Terms project. The resultsof the research can find practical implementation in lexicography, academic process and in translation activities. The study adds to the theory of Lexicography, Semantics, Theory of Terminological Systems. The subject area is Philology.
