The thesis focuses on the analysis of cognitive, semantic, onomasiological, structural and stylistic peculiarities of lexical means which serve to verbalize the emotional concept FEAR in present-day English. Language units belonging to different parts of speech which represent the emotional concept FEAR in English have been collected. Principles of lexico-semantic organization (generic-specific relations, core-periphery distinction and thematic stratification) of the nominative space denoting the emotional concept FEAR have been singled out. The cognitive basis of the emotional concept FEAR verbal representation has been highlighted. The qualitative-referential pattern of the emotional concept under analysis has been presented. The fragments of this pattern find their reflection in the semantics of present-day English designation units. The associative space of the emotional concept FEAR has been established in the conceptual and language pictures of the world. The axiological value of the emotional concept FEAR has been defined through the analysis of primary and secondary means denoting the concept under consideration
