Volkotrub G. Pylyp Vasyljovych Klymenko (1887-1955) - a historian, specialist in the field of source study and an archivist.

The dissertation devoted to investigation of the life and creative activity of a talented historian, specialist in the field of source study and archeography, the initiator of archive study in Ukraine in 1920-1930, the pedagogue P. V. Klymenko. On the basis of complete analyzing of the historiography of the problem and a wide-range of primary historical sources, scientific heritage of the historian it is described in the dissertation the scholar's contribution to saving of archive records and ancient memorials, learning some problems of the social and economical Ukrainian history of the XVI-XVIII century, issuing of valuable historical sources, preparing of the specialists in the field of history and archive affairs. Also it was investigated the process of formation of the world-look and scientific views of the historian and defined the influence of M. V. Dovnar-Zapols'kyi on the Klymenko's formation as a historian and specialist in the field of source study, analyzed the community and differences of investigation's themes. It was systematized and completely analyzed the Klymenko's archival and scientific heritage, determined the priority ways of his scientific investigations: social and economic history of Ukraine in XVII-XIX centuries, history of the Great Principality of Lytva, archive study, archeography, source study, historiography, art study, pedagogy
