Essay

The author of the given dissertation has concentrated the attention to a problematic of religious fanaticism. The work is based on achievements of religious studies and theology, on the research in the field of psychopathology and psychotherapy, on the extensive historical material. The problem of fanaticism before mankind has existed for centuries. The attempts of its solving took place in the scientific literature, but the principle of the given work is the complex approach to studying the mechanism of origin of religious fanaticism. Research is constructed in such a manner that to embrace psychological ground and religious aspects as the historical sources. Components of religious fanaticism among which are belief, feeling and experience are analyzed in the work. Feelings intensify beliefs that are reflected in religious experience. The nature, historical roots and the mechanism of existence of religious fanaticism in this or that society, its transformation in extremism or terrorism on the one hand, and religious tolerance on the other hand are investigated.
