Essay

The complex analysis of morphology, postembryonic development, variability, phylogeny and directions of evolution of the freshwater and soil-inhabiting nematodes of the suborder Leptolaimina are given. 67 species, of which 14 are new. The morphology of the anterior end receptors is described and different types of morphology of the pharynx, female gonads and copulatory apparatus are classified. The analysis in interspecific variability of quantitative and qualitative characters in selected genera is given. The classification scheme of Leptolaimina are clarified. The problem of species coexistence are discussed.
