Essay

This research focuses on the study of secondary predication structures known in traditional grammar as Complex Object, Complex Subject, For-to-Infinitive Construction, Absolute Construction, Gerundial Predicative Construction. The analyzed structures are grouped according to the secondary predicate format; their basic structural types in Modern English are described and their distributional models are suggested. The main features of secondary predication structures are defined and their classification from the sentence syntactic structure perspective is proposed. The latter embraces structures of primary predication, complementation, modification and coordination. The syntactic structure modeling technique is worked out as a case study of the formalized representation of secondary predication structures serving as the basis for their formal models. These models can be used to optimize the applied programs' effectiveness in the automatic/automated linguistic information processing.
