Essay

The thesis is devoted to profound study of Nounsperson in the English language of the 20th century and spans their cognitive, structural, semantic, stylistic characteristics in dynamics. The research focuses on cognitive mechanisms of Nounsperson generation, on their correlation with prototypes, stereotypes, concepts as cognitive structures; on verbalization of relevant cognitive structures in their evolution. Major models of word-formation and word-formative elements of Nounsperson are analysed against the background of extralinguistic factors which trigger generation of Nounsperson and make some of them archaic. Professional, social, ethnic and gender factors became the main extralinguistic factors that caused the process of coinage of Nounsperson in the 20th century. The thesis tackles the influence of extralinguistic factors upon the development of English word-stock with the analysed nominative units . Emphasis is laid on the ways and mechanisms of this influence.
