Objekt: texts of French fabliaux, German schwanks and English jests. Aim: bringing out typological similarities and differences of French fabliaux, German schwanks and English jests. Methods: comparative-typological. This is for the first time in Ukrainian literary studies that a comparative and typological analysis of the genres of High Middle Ages and Renaissance town "low" literature of comic orientation has been carried out.
