Essay

The dissertation deals with the study of efficiency of using melatonin and vitamins A and E during chemoradiation therapy in patients with stomach cancer, as a therapy, directed on the increase of efficiency and diminishing of toxicity. The antioxidant and antiproteolytic influence of melatonin and vitamins A and E has been revealed. It has been proved that chemoradiation therapy without irradiation of areas of regional metastases doesn’t result in improvement of survival of patients. The protocol of chemoradiation therapy with irradiation of areas of regional metastases has been developed –which allows to improve the long-term results of treatment of patients, but it is accompanied by stimulation of lipid peroxidation, decrease of antioxidant defense, deterioration of indices of quality of life of the irradiated patients. The use of melatonin, vitamins A and E during the course of chemoradiaton therapy allows to normalize biochemical indices, to improve quality of life and survival of patients with stomach cancer.
