This thesis is deals with the symbols of the armed forces of Ukraine 1917-1920 as set of certain material objects, in a complex determining the appearance of army (uniform insignia, decorations, breast badges, banners), from the point of view of an embodiment in it of ideas of historical, political, national and cultural originality of the Ukrainian nation. The common laws of development of symbols of the Ukrainian armed forces 1917-1920 are established in a contecst of their formation and battle activity. On the basis of the overall analysis of elements of symbols of the armed forces of Ukraine 1917-1920 its basic components are allocated: national and state symbols; symbols connected with Cossacks-Hetmans period of ahistory of Ukraine; symbols connected with experience of military formation of Ukrainian Sich Rifles. The process of formation of traditions in sphere of symbols of the Ukrainian armed forces 1917-1920 was observed, recomendations for its using in modern Armed Forces of Ukraine were given.
