Essay

In the dissertation given, first in domestic legal science the attempt of complex research of the politics and law ideas of the prominent English thinker of XIX age of John Stuart Mill is done. In particular, the methodological sources of forming of world view of the scientist are considered, the problem of form of the state and its functions, mutual relations of individual, society and state, border of intervention from the state in the life of an individual and societies, providing of rights and freedoms of a person, correlation of natural and positive law in the aspect of the politics and law study of John Stuart Mill. The state and legal views of John Stuart Mill are analyzed on a background of politics and law opinions of the scientists of the past and contemporaneity and in close communication with present time. A role and place of scientific inheritance of the English scientist to the juridical science world legal, particularly to Ukrainian. It is set, that study of John Stuart Mill about the construction of the liberal state and free society, where priority is given to the human values is still actual today.
