Essay

The dissertation is devoted to research of the life, scientific and pedagogical activity of the professor of Kharkov University M.Petrov. His works and understanding of historical process have been analyzed. On this basis his vision of the world history and historiography is characterized. All this has allowed in a new way to estimate Petrov's contribution into development of historical science. He was an outstanding scientist, a brilliant teacher, the author of many original approaches of studying and teaching history. His researches on the world history and historiography have affected on formation of scientific interests of a constellation of Ukrainian and foreign scientists.
