Znamenska I. Root Verbs and their Derivatives in English Medical Terminological Language: Structural and Semantic Analysis

The paper focuses on the analysis of English medical terms formed from derived root verb stems of the Germanic origin. The object of investigation is determining structural and semantic peculiarities of medical terms, word-building functions and potencies of term derived stems and cognitive-onomasiological factors of medical term formation. The ways of word-building potency realization of derived stems of terms and the semantic peculiarities of studied terms have been investigated, basic lexical and semantic groups, to which medical terms belong have been determined and the cognitive-onomasiological model of medical term formation has been formulated.
