The dissertation focuses on the research of essence and direction of Eastern policy of the St.Peter”s chair in the context of geopolitical transformations on the Rus territories after the Golden Horde conquest. The discourse on Eastern policy of the Pope including the Tatar-Mongol factor and attempts to establish the church union in Halich-Volyn State as the instrument of the Eastern policy of the papacy have been defined. Catholic expansion on Halich-Volyn territories after the loss of independence of the state and also the role of Catholicism in geopolitical transformations on the Ukrainian territory after Krevska (1385) and Horodelska (1413) Unions has been analysed from this standpoint.
