Essay

The opera works of the leading British composers of the 20th century are examined as an outstanding artistic expression. Thе operas are being analyzed from the point of view of the manifestation of the comic and determination of the role of the national factor in them. The connection with the satires line of English art is traced; the deep Shakespeare’s genesis is disclosed; the deep continuity with the traditions of the folk theatre is accentuated, which causes an embodiment of comic in the grotesque aesthetic modification.
