Essay

Band-shoe brake friction unit. The work is devoted to bettering of operating efficiency of the band-shoe brake friction unit through its loading stabili-zation by simulating its stress deformation state and wear-ing in conditions of drilling pipe column lowering and well drilling and by refining the techniques for brake design and operating parameter evaluating. The mathematical models have been developed and studied – the analytical one for the brake band part, the finite element ones for the friction shoe while wearing and the friction unit at its open state and brake starting – over wide ranges of the design parameter and loading changes. The friction unit design advancements achieving by load stabilization are born out. The results of experimental testing are shown to illustrate quality of mathematical models and working abilities of the proposed friction unit part design. Drawworks band-shoe performance is estimated by using the modelling experiment data and dimension analysis and similarity theory methods. The re-fined techniques for estimating main brake design and op-erating parameters are proposed.
