Essay

Object of research - process of magnetically-controlled electroslag melting of multicomponent titanium alloys. The aim of work is the establishment of laws of formation of MHD-flows in slag and metal pools under action of external magnetic fields and development of technological processes of magnetically-controlled electroslag melting of homogeneous, fine-grained ingots of multicomponent titanium alloys. Hydrodynamic processes, proceeding in slag and metal pools during electroslag melting under the action of external longitudinal, longitudinal-radial and transverse magnetic fields, have been investigated. Regularities of movement of solid inclusions in a slag pool under the action of longitudinal-radial magnetic fields were studied. Effect of transverse magnetic field on metallurgical and technological peculiarities of the process of electroslag melting of titanium alloys was found. Characteristics of magnetic field, which guarantee the ingot melting with a homogeneous fine-grain structure without crystalline defects, were established. Properties of titanium alloys, produced by the MEM method, were studied. The feasibility of application of the developed technology for producing titanium alloy ingots with intermetallic strengthening, which possess new unique properties, is shown.
