Essay

The work is devoted to the investigation of optical transport networks basing on the dense wavelength division multiplexing technology and to methods of improvement of its capacity and to investigation of polarization mode dispersion of single mode optical fibers. In the work, basing on the Johnson’s method, the method of determination of signal group delay on phase difference at output of optical fiber segment has been developed; taking into account this method the model of polarized mode dispersion has been created; the measurements of Johnson’s matrix of optical fiber segments have been carried out that permits to adapt the model to real optical fibers; the experimental measurements using transportation network have been conducted; basing on last data the distributions of differential group delay and birefringent characteristics change dynamics have been investigated; the scheme of polarization-mode dispersion compensation for transmission systems with wavelength dense multiplexing has been elaborated and basing on this scheme the structure of optical linear route has been improved that allows to increase transmission rate and, as consequence, to increase network capacity of optical transportation network. The results have been introduced in Technical Exploitation Centre of Primary Network №6 of Public Corporation “Ukrtelecom”, in Centre of Planning and Development of Networks of Public Corporation “Ukrtelecom” and in educational program of Department of Telecommunications of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
