Essay

The object – the fall webworm, insicticides. An aim – to study ecological factors which determ the fall webworm spread and adaptation in Ukraine; to improve perennial plant protection management targeted on pest. The methods – laboratory, field tests. The novelty – The distribution pattern of the fall webworm in Ukraine is reported. The correlation between climatic, geographic, ecological factors and pest harmfulness was described and used for the risk zones mapping, within which spread trends and damage losses were forecasted. For the first time in Ukraine the pest photoperiod reactions was calculated. The pest phenology, trophic preferences and harmfulness were studied for the different risk zones and ecological units. The results proved the fall webworm possible successful adaptation in the Northern part of Ukraine. A wide range of insecticides was tested against the fall webworm in Ukraine and the most effective of them were indicated. The above researches led to improved pest control strategies and phytosanitary regulations targeted on perennial plantations. Results – the results are used by state Plant Quarantine and Protection Services in perennial plant protection management targeted on the fall webworm. Field - agriculture, quarantine plant.
