The dissertation is devoted to a complex survey of the social and political aspects of military reforms in the Russian Federation in 1990 - 1997. The internal and external political prerequisites of Soviet military forces' reformation are being studied in the dissertation. The role of the army in the Soviet society on the eve of USSR' collapse is being reviewed. The dissertation covers the process of evolution of the state, party structures and different public organizations' attitude towards the problems of the military's reformation. The forms, methods and ways of USSR military reform' application are being studied. The impact of the Commonwealth of Independent States' creation and the influence of the collapse of the Military forces of the USSR upon the beginning of the Russian army' creation are being covered. The dissertation depicts the stages of the Military forces of the Russian Federation' military reformation as well as the political and social aspects of it's realization. The approaches of the Russian parties and social movements regarding the army's reformation are being revealed. The dissertation describes the role of the social protection of the servicemen, military and patriotic upbringing of the Russian youth and the role of military education in the state politics of the Russian Federation.
