Essay

In this manuscript a theoretical generalization is carried out and a new decision is produced of the specific scientific task - the determination of structure-functional changes of thyroid exposed to radiation in remote period after the Chernobyl accident and role of ionizing radiation in their generation in children and adolescents living in contaminated area with environmental iodine deficiency and substantiation of effective measures for iodine insufficiency correction in organism, goiter treatment and thyroid pathology prevention. On the basis of investigation in exposed children and adolescents there was revealed an inconsistency between goiter incidence and extent of iodine deficiency. It was established, that incorporation of iodine radionuclides promoted to origination of nodular goiter, enlargement of comparative goiter volume, echostructure abnormalities onset, increased incidence of positive autoantibody testing to thyreoglobulin and/or to thyroid peroxidase, and elevation of TSH blood serumconcentration. There was detected a relationship between blood serum thyrotropin concentration and thyroid radiation dose. The system of staged, composite administration of iodine drugs and biologically active substances was worked out.
